Creating a new object
Now let’s create a new object for another wine region of california: Santa Barbara. Tap the button in the object list form to get an empty object form.

Tap on the upper right to open a popup list with the available global fields and pick Region from it. Then enter Santa Barbara to the second line and tap to add it to the region list. Tap on the left of the first field line and pick Varietal from the list then tap on the right to open the item popup list. Select Chardonnay as one of the main varieties of the region. Tap to save the changes and to return to the object list.

Filtering the object list
Tap on the upper left in the object list form to popup a list of the global fields and choose Region. Now a filtered object list is displayed that does only contain objects with the key field Region.

Tap on the above the second column and choose Country from the list that drops down. For those objects that do have a Country field the entry of that field is now displayed in the second column.

The popup lists are also accessable via a right click of the 5-way navigator button on Palm Tungsten and Zire models (a left click closes the form and returns to the database form).

Using a field as a link to another object
The link feature is very useful for navigating through objects. Open the object Region Napa valley for example. Tap on to switch to the second set of buttons in the field list ().

In the Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon line tap on (the link button). Now the database is searched for an object that has the field Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon as key field. If a matching object is found the current object is closed (without saving) and the found object is opened. Thus, the Cabernet field in the current object can be considered a link to the Cabernet object.

In this example the Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon object exists and is loaded to the object form.

Remark: currently the link feature does only work if the field is a global field and its entry is an item of the fields item list.

Moving through object history
Tap on to go back to the previous visited object (Region Napa valley).
(db2go has an object history stack containing the last eight objects. You can move within this stack with the back and forward buttons )

Creating a new object via the link feature
Back in the Region Napa valley object tap on the link button in the Zinfandel line. As no matching object exists in the database a dialog opens and you are asked if you want the object to be created. If you tap Yes a new object with the key field Varietal Zinfandel is created and opened. By default a link back to the the ‘creating’ object is inserted as second field into the new object. The new object must be saved with or .
