Import and export of databases

Large databases are usually not built on the handheld due to the slow and unconvenient data input. Instead they are created on the desktop and converted to the Palm format.

Beginning with version 1.5 the converter dbconv.exe (for Windows) is part of the db2go distribution. dbconv.exe can convert db2go database files (.pdb) into csv-files and vice versa.

A CSV file is an ASCII file that can be read and generated by almost every spread sheet program (like e.g. Excel).

Each line of the CSV file corresponds to a row of the spread sheet. Within a line the columns (cells) of the row are separated by a certain character, the separator. Usually this separator is a ; or a ,.

A CSV file can be written manually with an editor however the most common and convenient way is to use a spread sheet program.

Important note:
Databases generated by dbconv.exe don't work with previous versions of db2go.
